FROSTFORVITRING

FROSTFORVITRING provides you with an immersive event where it is possible to listen to temperature and frost weathering data collected at plateau blockfields in Norway and Svalbard during a research project funded by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.

For the ‘Frostforvitring’ project, electronic sounds are created from near-surface temperature measurements in three different blockfields which are located at the plateau summits of three different mountains: at Tron in Alvdalen, at Gamlemsveten close to Ålesund and at Platåberget near Longyearbyen on Svalbard.

The research was conducted within the frame of a PhD project with the title 'Constraining the frost weathering potential, formation history and subsurface processes of blockfields in Norway and Svalbard' completed by Dr Maria Peter. For this fusion of audio art and science, Maria currently collaborates with Aurélien Buiron, known under the artist name Ghost In The Loop (Ghostintheloop.com), who has worked on similar sound-science projects before, for example in collaboration with glaciologists.

Norsk FROSTFORVITRING gir en mulighet for å oppleve forskningsresultater litt annerledes. Her kan du faktisk lytte til temperatur- og frostforvitringsdata samlet inn på platå-blokkmark i Norge og Svalbard under et forskningsprosjekt finansiert av Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet i Trondheim.

For «Frostforvitring»-prosjektet er det laget elektronisk musikk fra temperaturmålinger nær overflaten i tre forskjellige blokkfelt som ligger på platåtopper på tre forskjellige fjell: på Tron i Alvdalen, på Gamlemsveten nær Ålesund og på Platåberget nær Longyearbyen på Svalbard.

Forskningen ble gjennomført som en del av et doktorgradsprosjekt med tittelen 'Constraining the frost weathering potential, formation history and subsurface processes of blockfields in Norway and Svalbard', utført av Dr. Maria Peter. For denne fusjonen av lydkunst og vitenskap samarbeider Maria for tiden med Aurélien Buiron, kjent under artistnavnet Ghost In The Loop (Ghostintheloop.com), som tidligere har arbeidet med lignende lydvitenskapelige prosjekter, for eksempel i samarbeid med glasiologer.
